Ballarat Cactus and Succulent Society

Joyce Carr, a world authority on epiphytic cacti, a plant which grows upon another, sadly passed away in 2001. She had been awarded the medal in the general division of the order of Australia in recognition for her services to cactus hybridising in June 1997.

To honor Joyce, who was a member in high standing in ours and many other cactus and succulent societies, we have selected the following slides and placed them on our web site for the public to enjoy.

Joyce took these slides and many thanks go to Derek Butcher, who converted these slides into a digital format, and Alf Carr, for allowing us to use these images on our web site. Joyce created approximately 250 hybrids. These hybrids all have the name "Liberty" as the first word in the cultivate name. Joyce took this name from the street in which she lived.

xJoyceara is a genus named in honor of Joyce, for the hybrids she created, all multi generic crosses in the four genera, Aporocactus, Epiphyllum, Heliocereus and Nopalxochia.
